Privacy policy
How Cape Caviar collects, uses and protects your personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Last updated 25 July 2026
1. Who we are
This site, caviars.co.za, trades as Cape Caviar and is operated by Pepper Group (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2025/671291/07), 37 Buitenkant Street, District Six, Cape Town, Western Cape, 7925, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information described here.
Privacy questions, POPIA requests and our Information Officer: support@caviars.co.za.
2. What we collect
- Order details — your name, phone number, email address, delivery address, the items you ordered and the order total.
- Payment information — handled by our payment provider. We receive a payment reference and status. We never see or store your full card number.
- Communication — messages you send us by email or Instagram.
- Technical data — IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed and referring source, collected through cookies and similar technology.
3. Why we use it, and on what basis
- To fulfil your order — confirming it, taking payment, delivering it and dealing with any problem afterwards. Basis: performance of our contract with you.
- To contact you about that order — we call or message to confirm delivery before it goes out. Basis: performance of contract.
- To keep records — tax, accounting and consumer-protection obligations. Basis: legal obligation.
- To improve and advertise the store — understanding how the site is used and measuring advertising. Basis: legitimate interest, and your consent where the law requires it.
- Marketing messages — only if you have opted in. You can opt out at any time.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the operators we need to run the store:
- Paystack — to process card payments.
- Our courier partner — name, phone number and delivery address, so your order can be delivered.
- Our email provider — to send order confirmations.
- Meta and Google — advertising and analytics measurement. Where order data is sent to Meta for conversion measurement, identifying fields are hashed before transmission.
- Internal order-notification tools — so we see new orders as they come in.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
5. Cookies and tracking
We use Google Analytics 4 and the Meta Pixel to understand traffic and measure advertising. These set cookies in your browser. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the store will still work, but your cart may not be remembered between visits.
Your cart itself is stored locally in your own browser, not on our servers.
6. How long we keep it
- Enquiries and leads — 12 months.
- Customer and order records — 5 years, to meet tax and consumer-protection requirements.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS and payment details are handled entirely by our payment provider. We limit access to order data to the people who need it to fulfil your order. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
8. Your rights under POPIA
You may ask us to:
- confirm what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct or delete information that is wrong, misleading or no longer needed;
- stop using your information for direct marketing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interest.
Email support@caviars.co.za and we will respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
9. Children
This store is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
